In the Company of Bears, by Benjamin Kilham

Benjamin Kilham is a woodsman and naturalist who over the past twenty-five years has discovered and then field-tested a new, exciting wildlife biology. Ben Kilham is New Hampshire’s only licensed bear rehabilitator.
He found himself spending the winter with 27 lively and orphaned cubs a huge jump from the three to five he typically sees. A bad year of feeding followed a good year of breeding. Kilham keeps the cubs in an 8-acre enclosed forest behind his house until spring, when he works with the state Fish and Game Department to release them in remote locations. His titles include Out on a Limb: What Black Bears Have Taught Me About Intelligence and Intuition and Among the Bears: Raising Orphan Cubs in the Wild.

Author Bio

Ben Kilham is a pioneering wildlife biologist and conservationist who has written three books and been the subject of National Geographic and Discovery Channels for the discovery of the social hierarchies that exist among bears, biology, and cooperation.

The Roaring Fork Valley Bear Coalition does NOT receive commissions on the books listed on this site.  These suggested books are a collection of expert information about bears. It is our hope to pass bear knowledge onto our community so that we can all peacefully coexist with the bears that share our beautiful mountain home.
